Today my little baby girl turned one! I can't believe how fast this year has gone by. It seems like yesterday I was in the hospital having her. In fact, I think I will tell our story of her birth, since I didn't have a blog to write about it back then.
March 12, 2009 was the day I was induced. I was so nervous because I have always gone into labor on my own. I wasn't sure what to expect. Not only was I being induced, I decided I wanted to go natural this time around. Thanks to my good friend Allison, I got some pretty good tips. I decided to go natural because with my other kids I have had problems with each epideral. It actually got worse with each pregnancy. This time I wasn't taking any chances!
We got to the Davis hospital at 6:00 am (I didn't get started on the pitocin till about 8:00 am) It was not as hectic this time around knowing I was going to be having a baby on a set day. I had gotten a sitter, shaved my legs and painted my toes. It was a nice change being able to prepare for the big day. When I got to the hospital they knew I was going natural. The only poke I was supposed to get was just from the IV that was pumping the pitocin in my arm. The nurse used the same hole to draw blood from me as well. I was so happy that I didn't have to get any more pokes. That was until the nurse came back an hour later with bad news. She told us that she mixed my blood up with a gal that was in labor next door!! What? Are you serious?! I was mad and even more nervous than before. I mean if she couldn't get samples of blood right, how was she going to help deliver my baby!? Luckily, she did a good job after all was said and done.
At 10:00 a.m. my Dr came in and broke my water. Ha that sucked! Usually I have had my epideral by now so I haven't had to feel it. Not only did that hurt, but my cushion of water was gone! So every contraction hurt a lot worse than before. My doctor was a little worried that I was going to have a fast labor. When she broke my water, I went from a 4 to a 5. She worried she wouldn't be around to deliver because she had to go back to her office that was 15 min away. I thought to my self, well weather you are here or not, I'm having this baby. I'm not keeping my legs closed :) At 11:30 a.m I started to have a lot of pain. The nurse checked me and I was only at a five. I decided to start moving around. I needed to go to the bathroom so I wheeled my IV bag in with me. As I sat there the pain got really bad. I stood up and could barely walk. I told Morgan I needed something and I wanted it NOW! In about 5 min there was a gal in to give me my epideral. The only problem was, I couldn't hold still for her to even prep me for it. I was in so much pain!! She kept telling me to hold still and I just couldn't keep it together. I was hurting so bad I even broke a thick hospital cup LOL Finally, I started to scream that there was a burning feeling down below. No one really believed me because I had just been checked 20 min ago and was at a five. So I decided to lay down and start pushing! When the nurse checked me Avery's head was right there crowning. The nurse told me not to push (ha ha, ya right) and she paged my doctor who had just walked in to the hospital for lunch. She ran in with the other 5 people who were trying to get everything ready for the baby. Two pushes later, at 12:00 p.m, my little baby girl was born. When they put her on my belly I opened her legs to check and make sure she was really a girl. I was in denial even after seeing her girl parts during my ultra sound. I was finally getting another girl that I had wanted so bad! Sure enough she was a girl weighing in at 7 lbs 0 oz 19 inches. I was on cloud 9 holding her in my arms. We named her Avery Kay Griggs after her Great Grandma, Linda Kay.
